Description

The City of Southport is seeking individuals to be part of our 2024 Summer Camp Program as Summer Camp Counselors.  As a Counselor, you will prepare, lead and actively participate in active/passive games, arts and crafts, outdoor activities and more.  Camp Counselors are expected to be a role model and provide meaningful experiences for their campers.  This position is seasonal and does not qualify for benefits.    

• Planning games and arts and crafts activities.
• Planning and supervising children on a variety of field trips to the movies, library, parks, playgrounds, water park and other destinations.
• Supervising children daily to apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
• Helping to set up scheduled activities with general facility maintenance.
• Enforcing rules, camp policies, and maintaining order.
• Ensuring that all children are kept in a safe and enjoyable environment.
• Providing information to participants and parents regarding upcoming events and programs.

• General knowledge of the methods and practices of community recreation work.

• General knowledge of counseling techniques.

• Some experience in supervising and/or teaching children.

• Relevant rules and regulations of social, artistic, craft and/or athletic programs for children.

• The ability to instruct common recreational activities.

• A compassionate heart for the care and safety of children.

• A desire to foster learning and growth while interacting with and playing games and activities with children.

MINIMUM & PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be a High School graduate.
• Experience working with children elementary school age.
• Requires valid NC driver’s license.  CDL preferred.
• Must pass background and drug screening.
